Wine on Linux Works Free

Recent posts on Image-Line's forum describe FL Studio running well on Linux through Bottles with a current Wine runner, including FL Cloud.

Rating: User reports in Image-Line's official Linux megathread, February 2026

  • Not supported by Image-Line. Help with crashes is not guaranteed.
  • Low latency audio needs WineASIO with JACK, which Image-Line's knowledge base describes.
  • Third party plugins are not covered by these reports.

Setup steps

  1. Install Bottles from Flathub, the release the Bottles docs call the most supported and tested. (Bottles documentation)
  2. On first launch, let Bottles download its components (about 70 MB, including the runner, DXVK and VKD3D). (Bottles documentation)
  3. Create a new bottle with the plus button in the top left and follow the prompts. (Bottles documentation)
  4. Download the FL Studio installer for Windows from Image-Line, open the bottle and use Run executable to start it. (Image-Line, Bottles documentation)
  5. If the default runner gives problems, users in Image-Line's Linux megathread report good results with the kron4ek Wine 11 runner in Bottles. (Image-Line forum)
  6. For low latency audio, set up WineASIO with JACK, as Image-Line's knowledge base describes. (Image-Line support)

Cost: Free. Wine and Bottles are free. FL Studio itself is a one-time purchase.

Not confirmed for FL Studio. A Windows VM gives it a full Windows environment, but graphics and audio go through virtual devices.

Cost: One-time purchase. Free VM software, plus a Windows license and FL Studio.

We found no Image-Line statement on running in a VM or on audio latency there.
