About RunsWhere

RunsWhere answers one question for desktop and creative software: can I run this app on my platform, and if there is no official version, what actually works?

What a record contains

Where the facts come from

  1. Vendor pages: download pages, system requirements, release notes and help centers.
  2. Compatibility databases with ratings, such as the WineHQ AppDB and the CodeWeavers CrossOver database. We link to their pages and name the rating, and we do not copy their text.
  3. Official vendor forums, as supporting evidence only.

Press articles are used only to flag a possible change, never as the only source for a status.

What "not verified" means

If we could not confirm something from a source, we say so on the page instead of guessing. A whole record marked "not verified" is shown to visitors but kept out of search engines until it is confirmed. A single route marked "not yet tested" means we have no source that confirms whether it works for this app.

General methods

Some routes, such as a cloud Windows PC, work for most Windows apps because the provider gives you a complete Windows machine. When no source names the specific app, the route is labeled "general method, not tested with this app".

License warnings

Some routes are technically possible but conflict with a vendor's license, for example running macOS on non-Apple hardware. We show the license warning next to the route and never present such a route as the recommended option.

Keeping records current

Each record shows the date it was last checked. Vendors launch, change and retire versions, so we recheck records over time. If you spot something out of date, use the "Report a correction" link on the record or contact us.

Money

RunsWhere has no ads and no affiliate links at the moment. If that changes, affiliate links will be marked and will not change which route we call the best option.
