Designing in Sketch requires a Mac running macOS Sequoia (15.0.0) or newer. There is no Windows design app, but the Sketch web app lets Windows users view, inspect and comment on documents.

Official web version

Partly works

The Sketch web app runs in a browser on Windows for viewing, inspecting and commenting, but designing still needs the Mac app.

  • No design or editing tools in the web app, according to Sketch's docs.

Setup steps

  1. Ask the Workspace owner to invite you. Developers can be invited to inspect designs for free, without a Mac. (Sketch)
  2. If you join as a Guest, the document needs the share setting "Can download and inspect". (Sketch)
  3. Open the document in your browser and click the Inspect icon in the toolbar to open the Inspector and the Layer List. (Sketch)
  4. Select a layer on the Canvas or in the Layer List to see its properties, and hover over another layer to see distances. (Sketch)

Cost: Free. The Standard plan includes unlimited free viewers, who can comment, inspect and download assets in the browser. Editors pay $12 a month billed annually, or $120 one-time for the Mac-only license, and designing still needs a Mac.

Not recommended Does not work

Rented cloud Mac

Not verified

License warning. Apple's macOS license allows leasing a Mac only for developer services (continuous integration, building and testing software), with a minimum lease of 24 hours. Using a rented Mac for creative work is outside those terms.

Sources: Apple, Amazon Web Services · Checked , not verified

A rented Mac can run the Sketch Mac app over remote desktop, but no provider we checked names Sketch.

  • Sketch needs macOS Sequoia or newer on the rented Mac.
  • Apple's license limits leased Macs to developer services, so design work is outside its leasing terms.

Cost: Subscription. Mac rental is billed by the day or month, plus a Sketch subscription.

Not confirmed for Sketch specifically.
