Rented cloud Mac
Partly worksLicense warning. Apple's macOS license allows leasing a Mac only for developer services (continuous integration, building and testing software), with a minimum lease of 24 hours. Using a rented Mac for creative work is outside those terms.

Final Cut Pro runs on a rented physical Mac that you control from Windows over remote desktop. RentAMac lists Final Cut Pro as a use case.
- You edit through a remote desktop stream (RentAMac uses AnyDesk), so playback and scrubbing depend on your connection.
- Apple's license limits leased Macs to developer services, so video editing is outside its leasing terms.
Setup steps
- Choose a plan with a Mac rental provider. RentAMac starts from $3.97 a day billed monthly. (RentAMac)
- Install AnyDesk on your computer. RentAMac provides remote desktop access through AnyDesk. (RentAMac, AnyDesk)
- Connect to the rented Mac with the access instructions the provider gives you. You get an admin user and can install software. (RentAMac)
- Sign in to the App Store on the rented Mac with your Apple Account. Downloading apps requires one. (Apple)
- Buy Final Cut Pro for $299.99 or use it through Apple Creator Studio, then install it on the rented Mac (macOS 15.6 or later). (Apple, Apple)
Cost: Subscription. Mac rental is billed by the day or month (RentAMac from $3.97 a day billed monthly), plus Final Cut Pro at $299.99 one-time or Apple Creator Studio.
macOS virtual machine on a PC

Not a legitimate option. Apple's license forbids running macOS on non-Apple hardware, and Final Cut Pro on Intel also needs a Metal-capable graphics card.
- Against Apple's macOS license on a Windows PC.
- Final Cut Pro needs a Metal-capable GPU on Intel Macs.
Cost: Free. Free virtualization software exists, but the route itself is not licensed.
Known blockers
